Waste
containment, landfill cappings,
Under
the relevant guidelines, surface sealing systems for landfill
sites and tips consist of a number of different functional layers.
In the past twenty years, geosynthetic layers for draining gas and
water have established themselves as alternatives to mineral based
sealing systems. The performance required of a geosynthetic
composite over its working life is controlled though tests done by
independent organizations and by strict quality control.
With
the 5 m wide drainage mats from the Enkadrain
product family (Enkadrain Wide), we offer products meeting the
high demands on gas and water drainage in landfill surface sealing
systems. Special product types can replace the conventional 0.30 m
thick gravel drainage layer and the geotextile protection layer.

Surface
water drainage. The
percolation of rain into the soil capping layer can cause
stability problems as the water accumulates at the interface of
the capping and soil. By using 5 metre wide Enkadrain drainage
geocomposites the pressure is eliminated and, additionally, the
traditional thick sand or gravel layers can be replaced. Enkadrain
is very economical and is very easy to install. Rainwater can also
be trapped and discharged by Enkadrain
Findrains. Enkadrain has a proven record, extending
over more than 20 years of successful use in surface water
drainage projects.
Gas
collection. Traditionally, sand or gravel layers are used for
the collection of gas in landfills. These layers can be replaced
by Enkadrain drainage blankets. Light and easy to install,
Enkadrain LCL prevents the lifting of the membrane due to the
build-up of gas pressure lt also enables a considerable increase
in the landfill storage volume by replacing the sand or gravel
layers
Leak
detection. Whenever a liner protection system is designed to
consist of two geomembranes a leakage detection layer is required
in between to collect and transmit leachate to a disposal point
Enkadrain LCL provides a system for easy and reliable leak
detection. The flow in the Enkadrain LCL has a specific flow path,
parallel to the zig-zag configuration of the mat, facilitating
detection of the leak. The long-term compressiye strength of the
drainage blanket ensures proper functioning during the lifetime of
the structure.
